COUNCIL OAK MURAL — COUNCIL OAK COMPREHENSIVE HEALTHCARE FACILITY, TULSA, OKLAHOMA
In 2022-2023, I was commissioned by the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Department of Health to paint a mural in the main entry lobby of the Council Oak Comprehensive Healthcare Facility in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The 80-foot long, 26 panel installation, entitled Unbroken: The Council Oak Story, was completed and installed in 2023 and relates the history of the Council Oak tree—a surviving tree in Tulsa that marks not only the reestablishment of the Muscogee people in Oklahoma (then Indian Territory) after forced removal, but also the founding of Tulsa itself, and encompasses the history of the tribe and of Oklahoma to the present day.
